Heroes Among Us February 01 2016
Depression is a very real thing and it plagues more people than you know. It hurts my heart so much that in one small instant that my brother could have been one of the 22. I can't imagine my life without my best friend. He and my husband and many other men and women go through these thoughts of desperation daily.
I want to so much to grab the world by the shoulders and make everyone realize the real underlying issue here: PTSD and TBI is rampant and our heroes (& anyone suffering from depression) need help!!
We at a smaller scale can do so much! Reach out to our veterans. Reach out to our loved ones and friends. Let them know their presence is important. That there is so much more ahead. We can take care of one another.
I think living in the society we're in now, reaching out to people randomly and just saying hello quickly attributes to, "not having a life" or "this person wants something".
Why? Don't let that stigma stop you from letting someone know that you're thinking about them. Don't let time be a factor also. I mean before you know it, you'll find yourself starting sentences with, "I should have", "I wish I had". Don't live with that kind of regret.
As much as some of us are turned off by the idea of social networking, it really is a great way to keep in touch with the people we care about. I must admit that I am guilty of rarely interacting online. I have work and my family to tend to, but checking in on love ones across the globe takes only 35 seconds to post a "Hey. How are you?" Whether they reply back or not is up to them. I made the attempt to reach out.
I apologize if my thoughts are scattered. The idea of living in a world without the ones I love is terrifying.
Here are the links that my brother shared in his post:
I am also here! I'm a mom to 2 beautiful girls. My husband is a Marine. My brother is in the Army. I love adventure and being outdoors. I'm a nerd at heart. I love all things magical, music, food, my Heroes!, and so much more... I know it can be weird to reach out to strangers, but you are more than welcome to be anonymous and I've been told that I'm a pretty good listener. :)
